Sketching is a great way to stimulate your mind. While urban sketching is an affective way to document what you see around and create your own treasured memories.
In this class you will learn how to create lively, simplified urban sketches by using markers and pencil.
This 3 hour workshop will develop skills in:
– how to see shapes and lines
– how to find your focus/point of view
– how to create balance in your design
– how to simplify and tell a story
– plus tips on urban sketching En Plein Air (sketching outdoors from direct observation)
You are welcome to work from your own reference pictures or use photos provided by the instructor. Oksana will be doing demonstrations throughout the class.
About the Instructor:
Classically trained in Eastern Europe, Oksana began her art career in L’viv, Ukraine. Oksana studied at the Ivan Trush College of Decorative Arts. She chose to make painting, especially of murals, her specialty. In 2001, she held her first solo exhibition at the L’viv University of Ivan Franko. Oksana brings her training, skill, and passion to her painting, and she is versatile in expressive styles. She is adept at many genres, including portraiture, still life, and landscape.

Supply List:
1. Small sketch book hot press heavy paper (recommended Etchr hot press 6×6” or similar size)
2. Tombow water-based markers :
873, 451, 090, 603, 515, 992, 126, 993, N52, N35
3. Blackwing pencil of your choice
4. Eraser
5. Suitable art clothes, cloths or paper towel, notebook, snack, drink, and your own PPE (mask, hand sanitizer)

Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
