The Paint Spot is an Artist-centered Retailer

The Paint Spot has been a supportive hub of creativity and inspiration for artists, creators, and educators since we opened in 1985. It was first established as a retailer of inspiring art materials with an intense focus on product value. Located in Edmonton’s vibrant District Whyte in Old Strathcona, we serve artists, from beginners to professionals. We offer a full range of quality materials and tools, as well as art classes that broaden skills and encourage the use of new materials and techniques. The Naess Gallery showcases innovative art by local artists. It has always been important to remain an artist-centered retailer. We strive to help artists explore, grow, and succeed in their personal goals.

Knowledgeable Staff

Hiring artists who are not only knowledgeable but as passionate as their customers ensure a quality in-store experience. Of equal importance, our staff is genuinely interested in your projects and sharing their expertise while learning from yours. The Paint Spot prides itself on customer service and works hard to support artists. We select stock that is both reliable and cost-effective. Although we consider the in-store experience to be our hallmark in customer service, we do a thriving online business as well. Of course, our staff is happy to answer questions by phone or email.

Ongoing Artist Education and Skills Development

The Paint Spot inspires learning through our online resources that explore materials, mediums, and techniques. We offer guidance for emerging and professional artists, but the commitment to creative expression and success doesn’t end there. At Artelier Studios students at all levels of expertise sign up for classes in a variety of mediums, taught by professional artists who share new skills and inspire confidence.

Teachers Inspiring Youth

The Paint Spot understands the importance of supporting the success of young learners with good-value student materials and tips for achievable projects. We offer generous discounts on student materials.

The Naess Gallery is named in honour of its founder Sidsel Naess Bradley. It’s one of three exhibition spaces that encourage the exploration of artistic ideas and innovative processes. Artists are welcome to submit show proposals that push materials, techniques, subject matter, and concepts. The Paint Spot’s commitment to artist development doesn’t end there.

Whyte Avenue Art Walk – Investing in Community

Whyte Avenue Art Walk
Whyte Avenue Art Walk

In 1995 The Paint Spot launched Whyte Avenue Art Walk, beginning with 38 artists scattered throughout Whyte Avenue’s business district, showing their art and demonstrating their craft. It was an open invitation for patrons to stop and chat with artists about inspiration, technique, and motivation, and for artists to sell visual art. The festival has grown to an annual three-day event featuring 400+ artists who take to the streets in a celebration of visual culture, welcoming more than 40,000 visitors yearly. After 27 years of producing and hosting the visual arts festival, management has been handed over to the Activate Arts Alberta, (formerly Ice on Whyte Society). The premise of the event remains the same – a wonderful smorgasbord of uncurated visual art by artists of all skill levels and price points. The Paint Spot remains steadfastly committed in its support of art and community.

The Paint Spot – independent, innovative, creative, and dynamic – at your service since 1985.
