With the summer solstice just around the corner, are you ready to paint some brilliant blue skies with Francis Marte? Capture the golden glow that Alberta landscape painters have become renowned for. In this 5-hour class, you will learn how to:
1. Prep for a good landscape composition
2. Mix various but limited amount of pigments to simplify your painting
3. Use masking fluid
4. Preserve whites and light areas of the paper
5. Identify and use the appropriate brushes
6. Paint step-by-step with precision and control
7. Paint by sections, while paying attention to value and tone
A photo reference will be provided by the instructor, as well as paints and masking fluid. The Paint Spot will supply other materials.
About the Instructor:
Francis Marte is a realistic watercolourist with years of professional experience. He has participated in various exhibits and has been featured in international watercolour publications. Francis possesses a strong sense of artistry, consistently displayed in all his art pieces. He is a well regarded watercolour instructor for emerging watercolourists.

Most supplies are included in the supply fee.
Instructor will provide watercolour paint and photo reference.
The Paint Spot will provide watercolour paper (Arches 300lb cold press, 10 x 13”), watercolour brushes, palettes, kneadable eraser, masking tape, masking fluid, and mounting board and spray bottle. Students are encouraged to bring their own watercolour brushes and paints. The instructor will guide students on how to use them appropriately.
Please Bring:
- Handful of kitchen paper towels, ballpoint pen, 2 containers for water
- Suitable art clothes, hand towel, notebook, snack, drink, and your own PPE (mask, hand sanitizer)
You will receive a 20% discount on all art supplies from your registration until the end of the class!
Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
