Small Batch Dyeing with Fibre Reactive Dyes Workshop WITH ARLENE WESTEN

$115 ($80 + $35 Supply Fee)
Class Limit: 12 Students
Any Skill Level – Youth or Adult
This fun and informative hands-on class will introduce participants to the fascinating world of textile dyeing. Our focus will be on the use of fibre reactive dyes, a popular and versatile type of dye for natural fibres, such as cotton, linen, and rayon. Participants will gain practical knowledge and skill in colour mixing, fabric preparation, and dyeing techniques, and learn how to overcome common challenges in small batch dyeing.
About the Instructor:
Multi-disciplinary artist, Arlene Westen, brings over 30 years of teaching experience to her students. Her proficiencies include mixed-media, collage, surface design, book arts, and printmaking.
After graduating from Grant MacEwan University with a Visual Arts Diploma, she earned two further baccalaureate degrees: Fibre Art (Honors) from the Alberta University of the Arts, and a Studio Arts Degree (Honors with Great Distinction) from University of Lethbridge.

The Paint Spot will supply: Turquoise, Lemon Yellow, Fuchsia Jacquard brand Procion MX Dye
Soda ash, Synthrapol, salt and masking tape
Instructor will supply: Large Ziploc bags, miscellaneous small disposable supplies (Ikat tape) and PDF specialty cotton
You Bring:
1. Disposable gloves to protect hands from dye exposure.
2. A plastic pail or wash tub
3. A roll of saran or plastic wrap
4. Watercolour brushes (small and large)
5. Optional: String or elastics, small plastic squeeze bottles, large soft paint brush
6. Suitable art clothes, hand-towel/tea-towel, notepad, lunch, drink, and your own PPE (mask and hand sanitizer)
You will receive a 20% discount on all art supplies from your registration until the end of the class!
Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW, Edmonton (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
