Fearless Florals: Collage Edition! Workshop WITH MEGHANA GAUTHIER

Any Skill Level – Youth or Adult
This workshop is about using botanical motifs to create bold and expressive mixed media florals. With cut paper, we will depict a traditionally organic subject using graphic elements.
Using a fast and fluid approach with tissue paper, japanese paper, acrylic-based media, crayons, pastels, glues/gel mediums, we will create 2 11×14 works: one study piece on
Bristol paper (which is also frameable) and one on wood panel/canvas. We will review what makes a successful painting, sources of inspiration for you to access after the class and create our own paper with tissue paper. Create a unique painting for yourself, your mother or someone special as a tribute to Mother’s day, or simply to enjoy the beauty of the flower!
About the Instructor:
Meghana is an emerging artist who works in acrylic and mixed media to create bold, expressive florals and portraits. She is based in Edmonton with her family and she is a proud graduate of UofA Extension’s Visual Arts program. After 10 years of diligently learning, experimenting, and producing, she is now excited to share her inspiration and process.

Recommended Supplies:
1. Canvas/cradled wood panel: 11×14
2. Bristol paper pad 11×14
3. Bring your favourite heavy body, fluid, or high flow acrylic paints (Golden, Holbein, Amsterdam) and inks.
4. Bring your favourite drawing materials! – soft pastels (Faber-Castell, Holbein, Nupastel) – crayons, markers, etc.
5. Adhesives: glue stick, acrylic matte medium for tissue or heavy gel medium for heavier papers.
6. For collage, bring your favourite paper!
7. Tools – scissors, brushes, stencils/stamps, brayer (artist will supply some), bubble wrap, old gift/plastic credit cards to squeegee with, masking tape (1″)
8. Ziploc freezer bags (large) and sharpie/pen
9. Reference photos to work from.
10. Suitable art clothes, notebook, snack, drink, and your own PPE (mask, hand sanitizer)

Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
