Summer Week-long Retreat at Artelier!

Looking for a creative getaway not far from home? Why not spend a week at Artelier exploring and experiementing with a diverse range of materials? This week we’ll be diving head first into water based media. Learn a variety of techniques from 3 different instructors, each a master of their own craft. Whether you’re looking to expand on your skill set, or try something completely new, Water Media Week is the retreat for you! Watercolour lovers can find solace in trying different techniques such as wet-on-wet or painting on Yupo paper instead of cotton rag. If that’s not enough, you will also paint on silk using Jacquard Dye-n-flow fabric paints! Discover your new favourite medium!

5 days of artmaking with 3 different instructors!

Monday: Start the week off and loosen up with painting on Silk with Anastasia Machinski.
Tuesday: Next you’ll tackle watercolour on cotton rag exploring brushwork and colour theory with Francis Marte.
Wednesday: Francis will guide you further into the world of watercolour using wet-on-wet in the second part of this workshop.
Thursday: Finally, Karen Bishop will show you how to approach watercolour on a different substrate: Yupo paper! Yupo is a plastic paper and unlike silk and cotton, does not absorb water. Let Karen show you how to approach painting on this surface while utilizing its unique properties!
Friday: Karen will wrap up the week with more painting on Yupo with a workshop on intuitive painting and an informal critique on the week’s work.
