Stoneground Watercolour Half Pans
Stoneground Paint Co. watercolour paints are made by hand in Canada from the finest pigments available. Each pigment is bound within a unique combination of the highest grade gum arabic and locally sourced organic honey. Stoneground’s watercolour paints are ground by hand, and are made in small batches. There are no fillers in the paint in order to keep them as pure as possible.
The foundation of The Stoneground Paint Co. was laid by Cruz Anderson. Anderson learned the foundations of paint making and traditional knowledge from Dr. David Cranswick while studying in London, England. Continuing to study and research on his own, Anderson shared his knowledge with Kathleen Avram, Eric Rowe, Brittany Perry, and Jenny Rowe, while working to perfect the proportions and processes used in the creation of Stoneground’s handmade paints.
One of the many advantages of Stoneground Watercolours is that they are made from single pigments. You can achieve the most brilliant colours with single pigment paints, because they do not include multiple pigments. Additionally, locally sourced organic honey is used as part of the binder recipe. The advantage of the honey is that it provides a beautiful, smooth consistency to the watercolour.

Historically, artists had a deep understanding of their art supplies, often sourcing their own pigments, as well as making their own paints. Their binders were made by hand, and their pigments sought out based on effects, properties, or rarity. Their artwork was only as good as the supplies they created for themselves.
The Stoneground Paint Co., is passionate about re-establishing the lost connection between artists and their supplies.
