Hand Puppetry: Puppet Making Series
WITH Emilia Fox Hillyer
Saturday, July 5
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
$95 ($80 + $15 Supply Fee)
Class Limit: 16 Students
Youth and Adults Welcome!
We discuss the “what puppetry is” led by an understanding of object performance from John Bell’s American Puppet Modernism. Then, participants will create a series of talking puppets using fabric, painted cardboard elements, ping pong balls, pipe cleaners, etc. After the puppets have been created, participants will put the puppets to work, staging their favourite poem, speech or song (lip-synched or sung) using a provided simple puppet stage.
About the Instructor:
Emilia is a puppeteer who got her start performing basketball tricks at pre-game and halftime shows for organizations like the Orlando Magic, Miami Heat, and Harlem Globetrotters. Since then, she’s had her work screened on public access television in Philadelphia, written and performed some solo shows, co-founded Boston’s Fork & Shoe Theatre Coop, and learned how to play the trumpet. She loves cardboard, pickling watermelon in the summertime, balloon volleyball, and They Might Be Giants!
