Description
Fearless Florals: Oil and Water Mixed Media Workshop WITH MEGHANA GAUTHIER
FRIDAY, JANUARY 10
6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
$50 + Supply List
Class Limit: 12 Students
Any Skill Level – Beginners this class is for you!
In Fearless Florals: Oil and Water, we prove that oil and water DO mix! We will do several quick, timed studies of flowers and floral arrangements using a water based medium: gouache (or watercolour with white gouache added for opacity) as our base layer. These studies will evolve into finished expressive works, where the gouache/watercolour layer sets the stage for bold oil pastel accents. The key technique is speed: you will generate several fresh and loose floral pieces, aiming to bring 1-2 to a finish, ready to frame or gift. All levels are welcome.

Recommended Supplies:
Use materials you already own, supplementing where necessary.
1. Mixed media sketchbook and pen/pencil/charcoal/eraser
2. 5-6 pieces of 11×14” Bristol paper, 16×20” if you really want to go big!
3. Oil pastels: primaries (red, blue and yellow) in warm and cool + dark and light greens + dark and light warm neutrals (e.g. sienna and umber) + black/dark brown and white/cream/pale blue.
4. Water based paints that you already own. This workshop will use gouache or acrylic gouache in primaries + black, white and neutral dark brown. You are free to use gouache or watercolours (whatever you already own) with white gouache added to watercolour for opacity to “make” your own gouache. If you only have acrylics, you can use those too but you won’t get a matte finish and won’t be as “toothy” for the oil pastel layer.
5. Brushes: (synthetic, round – one is enough #10 or #12)
You will receive a 20% discount on all art supplies from your registration until the end of the class!
Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
