Curious about the process of printing cyanotype? Do you want hands-on experience, learning the ins and outs of this fascinating medium? This one-day workshop is for you!
Explore the transformative magic of cyanotype, a photographic process discovered in the 19th century, and create interesting, mysterious compositions using everyday objects.
Leave the class with a collection of prints, and all that you need to know to continue to make your own cyanotypes!
About the Instructor:
Thomas Weir is a visual artist working in a mixture printmaking, sculpture, photography and drawing to produce works which combine these mediums into singular objects which typically are shown as prints on an art gallery wall. Following his time at the McLuhan House, Thomas will be one of the emerging artists in residence at the Society of Northern Alberta Printmakers (SNAP) beginning July 2025 and his work is currently being highlighted as part of the Edmonton Public Library featured creators program. He holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Guelph (2023) and BFA in Art & Design from the University of Alberta (2020).

Most supplies in this workshop are included in the supply fee.
The Paint Spot will supply: assortment of paper to use, cyanotype sensitizer and hake brushes
1. Any extra papers, found objects or film negatives for exposing onto cyanotype coated paper
2. Suitable art clothes, notebook (optional), snack, drink, and your own PPE (mask, hand sanitizer)
You will receive a 20% discount on all art supplies from your registration until the end of the class!
Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
