Making Portraits in Mixed Media WITH ASAL ANDARZIPOUR

Any Skill Level – Youth or Adult
Variety is the spice of life! Why stick with just one medium when there is a limitless potential in the world of mixed media. In this 3 hour workshop, you’ll be introduced to aqueous mediums like liquid charcoal, water soluble graphite, drawing gum and many other mark making tools! Capture ordinary scenes of daily life or create dreamlike images. In this class, you’ll discover new possibilities with a variety of materials!
Asal will demonstrate how each of these mediums can be used to create an interesting portrait, and wil share tips and tricks for capturing self-portraits and drawing from life. This workshop is designed for beginners with no experience and also those with some experience who want to troubleshoot their current work and create impressive results.
About the Instructor:
Asal Andarzipour is a multidisciplinary artist and curator. Currently, Asal’s practice is focused on oil painting and photography with roots in her long-term studies in design. Her art lives on in numerous private collections in the North America, Europe and the Middle East. Asal hold a Master of Fine Arts from Syracuse University as well as two other art degrees.

Most Supplies are provided in the Supply Fee. The Paint Spot will Provide: Heavyweight paper, Toned multimedia paper, Pebeo Drawing Gum + toothpicks/wooden skewers, Rubber erasers, some Watercolor paints, Watersoluble mediums (graphite, pencil crayon, etc.) Graphite and color pencils, markers and pens and Ink (black), China markers
Student Supplies:
1. A pair of scissor or exacto knife (some will be provided)
2. Magazines and collage materials
3. Spare/expired makeup supplies (lipsticks, mascaras, eyeshadows etc.).
Also consider: Silicone kitchen pads or anything textured
4. Suitable art clothes, hand towel, snack, drink, and your own PPE (mask, hand sanitizer)
You will receive a 20% discount on all art supplies from your registration until the end of the class!
Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
