Often described as “painting on water” Ebru is the traditional Turkish art of creating patterns by sprinkling and brushing pigments on the surface of a liquid and picking them up with paper or fabric, creating uniquely colourful fluid art.
In this workshop, you’ll explore Ebru, the ancient Turkish art of marbling. You’ll learn the preparation and equipment required, some of the traditional marbling patterns, and how to create them while discussing the various inks and paints used for each.
Join marble master Cate Kuzik for this one day deep dive into the possibilities of marbling. All supplies are included, leave with an assortment of beautifully marbled papers and all you need to know, so you can do your own marbling after class!
About the Instructor:
Cate Kuzik or, Ochre Lea is multidisciplinary studio with a love of colour, traditional printmaking techniques and mechanical machinery. We aim during this increasingly mass production, digital age to create simple, colourful leather and paper goods made to last, handcrafted with care.

Instructor will supply most supplies needed for this class, including sample packs of papers. Over 40 colours to marble with, allum and carrageenan trays and tools.
*The cost of this class reflects the prep time required to prepare marbling baths.
Please Bring:
1. Students are encouraged to bring additional Washi papers for marbling (some paper will be included in the supply fee)
2. Suitable art clothes, hand-towel/tea-towel, notepad, lunch, drink, and your own PPE (mask and hand sanitizer)
