Exploring the Sophistication of Grey – Acrylic Workshop WITH DELTRA POWNEY

SUNDAY, APRIL 13

12:30 PM – 5:30 PM

$80 + Supply List

Class Limit: 15 Students

Any Skill Level – Youth or Adult

In this workshop students will explore the understated power, and complexity of the colour grey. We will unpack complex colour mixing in order to gain an understanding of colour relationships, colour leaning, saturation and value that lead to a sophistication in the visual language of colour.

About the Instructor:

Deltra Leona McNeil Powney is a painter, printmaker, and art educator. She is a third-generation descendant of Scottish and Norwegian settlers who farmed at Redvers Saskatchewan where she grew up, located near Deninu K’ue First Nation Treaty 2 territory. She now lives in Maskêkosihk (Stony Plain), Alberta Treaty 6 territory, and holds a Visual Communications Diploma (1993) from Medicine Hat College, and a BFA with distinction (2017) from the University of Alberta.

In her art practice Deltra reflects her experiences within natural spaces while considering themes of place-making and belonging. Through immersive field research and close observation of nature she focuses on microenvironments along shorelines, and forest floors, capturing rhythms of light dancing on forms using dynamic marks, and dramatic tones of earthy hues.
