Painting with Gels and Pastes WITH SHELLY BANKS

Want to add literally depth and dimension to your artwork? With the aid of gels and pastes you can create a limitless array of unique pieces to your repertoire. In this full day class, Shelly will go through 4 different techniques with the use of palette knives and texture. The first piece will be creating an abstract floral using gel, the second piece will be all about creating just texture by gouging out paste for impressive grooves and patterns.
Shelly will also demo adding metallic paint or gold leaf accent to this piece for added punch. The third piece will be reminiscent of a Monet painting with pastels for another abstract look. And finally the fourth piece will be “zesty” with a refreshing citrus kick with the use of gel.
About the Instructor:
Shelly is an award-winning coloured-pencil artist who also enjoys teaching indigo dyeing, acrylic, glass painting and how to make beeswax wraps. She loves exploring a wide range of mediums. Her current passion is oil painting as it creates so much luminosity and vibrancy. She has taught for The Paint Spot for over 6 years now – she loves it!

The Paint Spot will supply: molding pastes, heavy gel and palette knives
Supply List:
1. Palette Paper
2. 6 x 6” canvas boards (4 per student)
3. Heavy gel gloss (Golden) or heavy body gloss (Holbein)
4. Acrylic Paints: Teal, titanium white, lemon yellow, cadmium or warm yellow, pthalo blue and green, dioxazine purple, magenta, titan buff (optional), fluorescent yellow (optional)
5. Suitable art clothes, cloths or paper towel, notebook, snack, drink, and your own PPE (mask, hand sanitizer)
You will receive a 20% discount on all art supplies from your registration until the end of the class!
Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW, Edmonton (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
