Masonite Panels 3mm
MADE IN CANADA Masonite panels are non cradled sheets. They are great for experimenting, practice, and studies as well as for finished work that you frame afterwards. Use Masonite panels for painting with acrylics, collage, resins, wood burning, as well as assemblage and more. Anything you can imagine. Masonite should always be primed in order to be used with oil paints or other solvent based paint. Since Masonite has a very smooth surface, we recommend priming before use. Try a watercolor ground to use watercolours or gouache, or a Pastel Ground to paint with soft pastels or oil pastels. Want to keep the color of the Masonite showing? Use a transparent gesso!

Priming:
For best results, apply one coat of gesso, pva size or Golden GAC 100 and allow to dry. Once the first coat is dry, sand the surface with a relatively fine sandpaper. Once you reach your desired smoothness, wipe off any residue with a damp cloth. You can start your painting at this point, however we recommend applying at least one more coat of gesso, especially for use with oil paint. You may continue this process until you achieve the desired surface on your birch panel.
