Image Transfers – 2 Day Course

Class Structure: This hands-on workshop offers ample time for drying, demonstrations, and creating unique works of art.
Day 1: Demonstrations, image prep, and project setup.
Day 2: Painting, assemblage, and hands-on creation.
Image Transfers for Mixed Media Artists: 4 Themes
Discover the art of image transfers—an intriguing alternative to decoupage or paper collage with versatile applications. Join Kim Fjordbotten for a two-night workshop designed for mixed media and collage artists eager to incorporate found, vintage, or personal images into their work. Learn to transfer images onto various surfaces fabric, canvas, or wood, and create clear decals using two methods. Kim will also share tips for organizing, storing, and reproducing images from books, magazines, and personal photos and tools to adjust and print high-contrast images for your projects.
For Beginners: Use instructor-provided images and follow step-by-step guidance.
For Intermediate Artists: Bring your own image collection or digital photos for in-class printing.
Themes:
1. Sketchbook Gems as Gifts: Transfer favorite sketchbook images onto wood for repeatable art.
2. Images on Denim: Transfer faces onto light or medium-colored jeans or jackets.
3. Warhol 3 Ways: Create a triptych by transferring and painting one image in three color variations.
4. Impossible Florals: Craft whimsical collages of family faces or pets emerging from floral arrangements.
About the Instructor:
Kim Fjordbotten has a BFA in Art & Design and owns The Paint Spot. She has been teaching methods and materials for art-making for more than 20 years. As a member of the International Trade Association she has gained experience in the traditional ways paints are manufactured and endeavors to stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in the industry. Her passions are encouraging people to get started in art and helping professionals to get the most from their materials.

Supply List:
- 8 oz Acrylic Gel
- ¾” Brush
- Offset Palette Knife
- 9×12” Palette Paper
- 4-pack Meeden Birch Panels (6×6”)
- Additional wood panels as needed
- Old light/medium-colored denim jeans or jacket
- Soft cloths (e.g., old t-shirts or pillowcases, no microfiber)

Artelier Studios is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW, Edmonton (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
