Drawing Fundamentals with David Shkolny

Required Supplies:

  1. #2B Pencil (woodless – they require less sharpening). Don’t need a range of pencils like H, 2H, etc – but if you have a set, that’s okay.
  2. Piece of clear plastic plexiglass (CLEAR, not frosted – the lightest weight you can find), 8 x 10” (can purchase at hardware store or similar). Use a permanent marker to draw two crosshairs on the plastic, a horizontal and a vertical line crossing at the center. See illustration. (Consider using the plexi from this cute frame)
  3. A viewfinder, made of heavy cardboard (eg. mat board) 8 x 10”. Cut a centered rectangular opening of 4¼ x 5¼” in the viewfinder. See illustration. Please make sure the cuts are clean and cut square.
  4. A non-permanent black fine-pointed felt tip marker
  5. Two small bulldog clips to fasten your viewfinders to the plastic picture plane
  6. 2B conté sticks (not pencil), black and white
  7. Masking tape
  8. Pencil sharpener or knife (for wooded pencils) to sharpen pencil
  9. White eraser
  10. Canson Mi-Teintes Tobacco Brown (full size and cut down in class)
  11. A pad of drawing paper at least 9 x 12”
  12. Drawing board (Masonite panel works well), at least about 14 x 18”. Should have a smooth surface.
  13. Suitable art clothes, notebook, pen, snack, drink, and your own PPE (mask, hand sanitizer)

You will receive a 20% discount on all art supplies, from your registration until the end of the series!

Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW, Edmonton (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
