Fearless Foliage: Mixed Media Workshop WITH MEGHANA GAUTHIER

Any Skill Level – Beginners this class is for you!
This companion workshop to Fearless Florals uses the colour green as a prompt to engage in a fearless exploration of…..foliage! Emphasis will be placed on finding inspiration and working QUICKLY to create a balanced composition with a healthy dose of bold mark making and abstraction techniques using acrylic based media to create lush foliage paintings. You are welcome to bring a discarded painting or two to use as an underpainting.
About the Instructor:
Meghana is an emerging artist who works in acrylic and mixed media to create bold, expressive florals and portraits. She is based in Edmonton with her family and she is a proud graduate of UofA Extension’s Visual Arts program. After 10 years of diligently learning, experimenting, and producing, she is now excited to share her inspiration and process.

Paint Spot will supply: rags, palette knives, and masking tape
Recommended Supplies:
1. Bristol paper pad or Canvas pad (11×14” or 12×16”)
2. Acrylic paint or inks or fluid acrylics, in any colours you like, but try and include: warm and cool yellow, warm and cool blue, any greens, bright red, warm browns and orange, a little black and lots of white.
3. Brushes: large and medium round and flat
4. Mixed media for linework: ink (any colour you have e.g. black/brown) soft or oil pastel (sticks or pencils), charcoal/conte, markers (any brand, Posca, sharpie etc).
Inspiration: houseplants that you own, any interesting pots/ceramics, artificial plants, any books with plant photos, e.g. gardening magazines. We will also use digital references.
OPTIONAL: additional tools for texture/mark making: plastic fork or wooden skewers, palette knife, bubble wrap, patterned stencils, brayer (4″ and below), nitrile gloves.
You will receive a 20% discount on all art supplies from your registration until the end of the class!
Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
