Drawing Fundamentals – 4 Week Series WITH ASAL ANDARZIPOUR

Any Skill Level – Youth or Adult

In this intro to drawing class, we will explore graphite pencils to conté. Then, we’ll move to ink and pens on different papers. Participants will learn foundations of art used in observational drawing, from proportions and perspective rules, to hatching, shading and blending.
Subjects are varied and include still life and portraits.

Accommodating for various levels of experience, this 4-week class is suitable for ages 12 and beyond. Whether as a healthy hobby or to initiate a drawing portfolio, this is the perfect class!

About the Instructor:

Asal Andarzipour is a multidisciplinary artist and curator. Currently, Asal’s practice is focused on oil painting and photography with roots in her long-term studies in design. Her art lives on in numerous private collections in the North America, Europe and the Middle East. Asal hold a Master of Fine Arts from Syracuse University as well as two other art degrees.

Student Supplies:

1. HB, 2B and 6B Pencils
2. Water soluble graphite pencil (2B preferred)
3. Koi water brush (medium)
4. White eraser and kneadable eraser, pencil sharpener
5. 11 x 14″ Strathmore 400 Drawing Paper Pad
6. Faber Castell Ecco Pigment Fineliner 0.5 nib (black)
7. 2B Black and White conté stick (crayon not pencil)
8. Canson Mi-Teintes 19.5″x25.5″ – 3 different neutral colours (eg. grey, sand, tobbaco…)
9. Set of soft pastels – a set of at least 4 is recommended
10. Masking tape
11. Drawing board (at least 11 x 14″) – a limited number of boards is available to borrow at Artelier
12. Suitable art clothes, apron, snack, drink, and your own PPE (mask, hand sanitizer)

Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
