Artful Embroidery: Blackwork Bear WITH DARCY HOOVER

Beginners Welcome!
In this course you will choose from a selection of simple images and design and stitch the image using blackwork stitches to create an effect similar in look to ink drawing or etching.
Your instructor will provide graphics, videos, and in-person advice on design, stitch choices, and technique. When your botanical image is finished it can be framed within the hoop.
Course Outcomes
Upon completing this course, students should have learned the following:
• how to transfer your designs onto the fabric
• at least one blackwork stitch and techniques to add shading by using threads of differing weights
• how to start and finish threads with no visible knots
About the Instructor: Darcy is a local fibre artist who has been embroidering for about three decades. In addition to her years of experience, she has completed the Certificate in Technical Hand Embroidery program from the Royal School of Needlework in London UK and is working on their follow-up Diploma program. Darcy is a member of and on the board for the Edmonton Needlecraft Guild and has taught embroidery classes through the guild.
Please Bring:
1. Glasses or magnifying glass if needed and Needlethreader if needed (optional)
2. Pencil, eraser, scissors, suitable art clothes, hand-towel/tea-towel, notepad, lunch, drink, and your own PPE (mask and hand sanitizer)

Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
