Beginners Welcome!
In this course you will design and stitch a small needlework sampler. Needlework samplers have a long history in European countries, historically being used to teach girls their alphabet, numbers, bible verses, and even a bit of geography.
You will be provided with sample layouts in which you can design your own sampler, and with several stitched motifs you can place within the framework. Examples of what can be stitched into the grid include text, repeating patterns, and some simple images. This project is ideal for stitching a birth or wedding announcement, for framing and illustrating a favourite short poem or quote, or for telling a brief visual story.
Your instructor will provide graphics, videos, and in-person advice on design, stitch choices and technique.
About the Instructor: Darcy is a local fibre artist who has been embroidering for about three decades. In addition to her years of experience, she has completed the Certificate in Technical Hand Embroidery program from the Royal School of Needlework in London UK and is working on their follow-up Diploma program. Darcy is a member of and on the board for the Edmonton Needlecraft Guild and has taught embroidery classes through the guild.
Please Bring:
1. Pencil, eraser, scissors, suitable art clothes, hand-towel/tea-towel, notepad, lunch, drink, and your own PPE (mask and hand sanitizer)

Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
