Description
Stoneground Paint Co. Gouache India Yellow
Stoneground gouache is a water-based media that dries to an opaque, matte finish. India Yellow is an intense yellow-orange colour invaluable for a variety of applications including landscapes and florals, botanicals and illustration work.
Artist Notes: This is a clean and vibrant colour almost on the verge of orange. Combine India Yellow with Naphthol Red for vivid Scarlets, or combine with Burnt Sienna Crimson for earthy, desert hues.
Opacity: Semi-Opaque
Paint Makers Notes: The original form of this pigment was thought to have come from the caked urine of cows force fed mango leaves, though recent scholarship has shed doubt on this theory. These days, artists colours in the same warm yellow family are often christened India or Indian Yellow in honour of the historic pigment.
Pigment Number: PY 139
Pigment Type: Synthetic Organic
Composition: Isoindolinone yellow
Lightfastness: I – Excellent
Toxicity: Non-Toxic
You can apply colours in layers, allowing you to refine and define your painting as you work. Because it is water-based, you can dilute gouache with water and used it wet-on-wet in the same manner as watercolour. Conversely, the chalk content in gouache means that it won’t bloom or flow like watercolour paint. You can lighten gouache by adding white, and layer it from dark to light due to its opaque nature. Stoneground Gouache Colours are easily mixed with one another and can be used interchangeably with Stoneground watercolour paint.
Size: Half Pan
Stoneground Paint Co. creates its handmade gouache by combining the world’s finest pigments as well as premium French chalk with a binder made from water, gum arabic, and honey.
Modern Colours
Stoneground defines modern colours as those developed and discovered after 1704. This was when the accidental discovery of Prussian Blue occurred. The colours Stoneground classifies as such, contain organic and inorganic pigments and are typically characterized by their intense and bright appearance.
