Stoneground Paint Co. Mars Yellow Gouache
Stoneground Gouache is a water-based media that dries to an opaque, matte finish. A dull yellow pigment, Mars Yellow is a synthetic iron oxide pigment. This Mars Yellow Gouache is Stoneground’s most opaque yellow. It is useful for capturing a variety of subject matter from landscapes to botanicals.
Artist Notes: Truly versatile across a range of applications, Mars Yellow is more opaque than Golden Ochre and duller than Naples Yellow Deep. Combine Mars Yellow with a range of purples and violets to create beautiful browns that add depth and complexity to dried foliage and grasses.
Paint Makers Notes: Developed at the end of the 18th century in response to depleted natural pigment deposits, synthetic iron oxides were given the name ‘Mars’ after the Roman god of war and our planetary neighbour which has almost double the amount of iron oxide in its outer layers than our own.
