Description
Stoneground Paint Co. Gouache
Stoneground gouache is a water-based paint that dries to an opaque, matte finish. These gouache paints are easily mixed with one another and can also be used together with Stoneground watercolour paint. A vivid deep blue, Ultramarine Blue is an invaluable choice for any artist’s palette and can be used in everything from illustration to botanicals, florals, and landscapes. Ultramarine Blue is arguably one of the most versatile and popular blues available.
Artist Notes: Combine Ultramarine Blue and Mars Orange for a range of neutral, earthy greys that make for interesting and expressive bi-chromatic works. Ultramarine Blue creates lovely olive green hues when mixed with Golden Ochre.

Paint Makers Notes: Ultramarine Blue was developed as a replacement for the prohibitively expensive Lapis Lazuli which, until the advent of synthetic Ultramarine in the 1830s, was one of the only blue pigments available to artists. Synthetic Ultramarine Blue pigment is more intensely blue than Lapis Lazuli as it reflects more light.

Modern Colours
Stoneground defines modern colours as those developed and discovered after 1704. This was when the accidental discovery of Prussian Blue occurred. The colours Stoneground classifies as such, contain organic and inorganic pigments and are typically characterized by their intense and bright appearance.
