Badger bristle, red sable and black sable are softer hairs that will apply paint smoothly and reduce brushstroke. Recent developments is synthetic hairs now provide options for artists look for a vegan or cruelty free option. We have plenty of options including a range of stiff to soft hairs.

For acrylic painting, we recommend only synthetics for performance, durability and easy cleaning. Soft brushes may be used for fluid paints and stiffer brushes are best for pronounce brush marks in thicker heavy-body paint. Silicone tools are excellent for impasto and structural painting with gels.

For watercolour, natural hair is best. The Paint Spot stocks premium da Vinci kolinsky sable and petit gris squirrel hair and sableline (dyed ox-hair). We also have modern options in the Colineo, Casaneo, and Cosmo-Top Spin.

For mixed-media, we have many short-handled brushes in a variety of unique shapes and filaments. These brushes are primarily synthetic and come in many unique shapes to create a diverse range of marks for one-stroke painting.
