Description
Gamblin Artist Oil Flake White Replacement
Gamblin Artist Oil Flake White Replacement is the first true, non-toxic alternative to traditional Flake White oil paint. It’s the stiffest and leanest of the Gamblin whites and a terrific underpainting white. Its beautiful opalescent quality is of special interest to portrait painters.
Gamblin’s stiffest and densest white, Flake White Replacement, exerts a greater amount of resistance under the brush and palette knife. It handles like lead white, which means it is “longer” in texture – with more pull, or drag, on the brush. This quality means it can easily replicate the impasto of a thickly painted Impressionist painting. This color is a re-creation of the basic working properties of traditional lead white without the toxicity of lead carbonate, being made with titanium dioxide pigment. Its binder is a mixture of refined linseed oil and stand oil.
This color has all the working properties of traditional Flake White: long ropey stroke, warm color, translucency and short brush mark. Not only does Gamblin Flake White Replacement come without the lead, but it also doesn’t suffer from the fast drying time of traditional formulations.
