Gamblin 1980 Oil Colour Transparent White

True color. Real value. Gamblin 1980 Oil Colors are made with the same dedication and pure pigments that go into Gamblin Artist’s Oils. In addition, they use the same process of mixing, milling, filling, and hand labeling. Gamblin 1980 Transparent White is a flexible transparent white and an exclusive to Gamblin 1980 colors. This color involves the use of proprietary inert ingredients added to titanium dioxide and marble dust. The resulting low tinting strength is reminiscent of Zinc White without zinc’s fragile film formation. Excellent for lightening a transparent color without adding opacity.

In order to reduce the cost of oil colors, some manufacturers use gels and waxes to stiffen colors and replace traditional pigments with less expensive ones. 1980 colors are formulated with pure pigments, the finest refined linseed oil and marble dust (calcium carbonate). More affordable colors have been made with these three ingredients since oil painting began.

With 1980 colors, artists experience colors that are true, without homogenized texture or muddy color mixtures. Gamblin’s approach of using both traditional raw materials and processes ensures that artists experience the luscious working properties that they expect from their oil colors.

The white we choose determines to a great degree what our experience of painting will be: how our colors will tint and mix, how they will feel under the brush or knife, and how opaque our paint layers will be.
