Description

Lineco pH Testing Pen

With a simple swipe of Lineco’s pH testing Pen, you can determine whether paper and board is acidic. This convenient method allows you to distinguish between safe (neutral or alkaline) paper and board and acidic materials.

The Lineco pH Testing Pen is easy to use. Simply draw a small line on the material you wish to test. The chlorophenol red indicator solution in the pen will turn purple on paper with a pH of 6.8 and above. Alternately, a clear or yellow color indicates the material is probably unsuitable for conservation purposes. Paper can be respectably long lived with a pH as low as 6.0. This is especially true if it is well made, and carefully used, as well as stored. In order to last for centuries in today’s polluted air, paper must have an alkaline reserve. Usually, this means a pH of 7.0 or greater.

Please note: unreliable results may occur on colored or coated papers.

Features:

  • We do not recommend the use of pH testing pens on unbuffered, acid free paper, because unbuffered, acid free paper is pH neutral at the time of manufacture. However, the pH value will vary when exposed to normal atmospheric conditions, potentially producing unreliable results.
