Williamsburg Handmade Oil Signature Colors Set
Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors has one of the most extensive lines of professional grade, quality oil paints. As a painter’s paint, there are many things that make Williamsburg colors unique, such as milling each pigment to its own unique standard to develop the richest expression of color and undertone. Some colors feel slightly gritty, while others are extremely smooth. This approach preserves the range of texture that oil paints had in the past. For artists seeking a convenient way to experience some of the color families within Williamsburg, these introductory sets feature eight colors in 11 ml tubes, as well as a 37 ml tube of Titanium White.
The Williamsburg Signature Colors Set is a collection of signature colors from the Williamsburg line. It includes 11 ml tubes of Brilliant Yellow Pale, Alizarin Orange, Persian Rose, King’s Blue, Courbet Green, Italian Lemon Ochre, Stil de Grain and French Ardoise Gray, and a 37 ml tube of Williamsburg Titanium White.
Made in small batches, Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors are recognized for being richly pigmented and dense. Each color is treated individually, with each pigment ground to the nature of that specific color, bringing out the beauty and preserving the wider range of differences that were common in the past. The line of colors is guided by tradition with a recognition for modern organic pigments.

The Williamsburg Philosophy
Getting the proper pigment is just the beginning. So much of the quality of an oil paint is in the grinding of the pigment. Williamsburg grinds each pigment to enhance the beauty and luminosity specific to that particular pigment. Some colors will feel slightly gritty, while others are extremely smooth. For example, Williamsburg Cerulean Blue has a beautiful, velvety, light absorbing surface with an extremely strong covering power. Conversely, Sienna colors are often gritty in order to allow light to travel through the vehicle. This exposes rich golden or mahogany undertones rather than just dull, heavy browns.
Artist grade pigments are ground in premium, alkali-refined linseed oil. These paints are made in small batches no larger than eight gallons at a time. This allows for total control over the product, much like the late nineteenth century French color makers. All the materials are hand measured, and every ounce of paint is scrutinized for quality.
Williamsburg offers technical advice to museums, and conservators, as well as artists all over the world. They welcome your questions and comments.
