da Vinci Series 488 CosmoTop Synthetic Quill Brush
Our favourite brush for calligraphic marking-making in watercolour, gouache, ink and fluid acrylics, has to be this Synthetic Quill brush. The series 488 utilizes the daVinci CosmoTop Spin blend of synthetics in 5 diameters, mounted in a clear plastic ferrule replicating goose quills. Brass wire is hand tied to fasten the hair bundle and the clear varnished wood handle to the ‘quill’. The resulting brush has the look of a traditional quill brush. The synthetic hair has far superior snap and point, but less water carrying capacity than the blue squirrel hair of the 418 series. This CosmoTop Spin brush is a delight to paint with and is visually stunning in the traditional quill presentation.
