Description
JPP Sekishu Banshi Mare Large HW
Sekishu Banshi Mare Large is one of the oldest continuously made papers in Japan, very strong and absorbent, made in Sekishu, now called Shimane. Don’t confuse this quality paper with others called “Sekishu” that aren’t 100% kozo. This best-quality washi is excellent for conservation uses, all forms of printmaking, and dyeing. It has traditionally been used for brush writing. Did you know that “mare” means best quality?
This heritage washi is fibre cooked in soda ash, unbleached, and hand beaten. The fibre is picked clean and beaten by hand. The technique for making Sekishu has been designated by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and by Japan as an Intangible Cultural Property.
