Golden Waterborne Varnish
*NEW* Introducing Golden Acrylic’s newly formulated, fine art Waterborne Gloss Varnish with UVLS! Golden Waterborne Varnish Gloss replaces the popular Golden Polymer Varnish. We’ve been fielding artist requests for a water-based acrylic varnish ever since Golden experienced a raw material issue that halted production of their Polymer Varnish in 2021. Today, we are excited to introduce the new Golden Acrylic water-based, polymer “Waterborne Varnish” to meet those artists’ needs.
Varnish provides a layer of protection that resists retention of dirt and dust. A true “varnish” can be removed to facilitate cleaning, and this Waterborne Varnish is removable. This new product also contains Ultra Violet Light Stabilizers (UVLS) to provide protection from exposure to sunlight.
Golden Acrylic’s Waterborne Varnish is intended for use on interior acrylic paintings and indoor murals. This water based, polymer varnish can be applied without the need for harsh solvents for thinning, clean up or removal. There is not a need for ventilation or other precautions taken like when working with mineral spirit varnish or solvents.

Before you Varnish:
We recommend applying an isolation coat to your acrylic painting, prior to varnishing. Golden Isolation Coat is a ready-to-use sealing coat for acrylic paintings. Previously acrylic artists’ only recourse was to dilute Soft Gel Gloss with water (our former and still acceptable recommendation) before applying it to completed acrylic artwork. Isolation Coat eliminates the need to measure and mix while increasing flow and leveling.
Isolation coat is a permanent acrylic medium that seals surface absorbency and allows for improved varnish application and easier varnish removal. Apply one or more layers before varnishing.
