Description
Stoneground Watercolour Mars Orange
Named after the Roman god of war, Mars pigments were created at the end of the 18th century, and are synthetic iron oxide pigments. Mars Orange is a dark valued, earthy orange and is useful in a variety of watercolour applications. Mix it with Ultramarine Blue to create a range of earthy greys.
Artist Notes: Mix Mars Orange with Ultramarine Blue to create a range of beautiful, earthy greys. Combine with Manganese Violet to make earthy browns.
Paint Maker’s Notes: Developed at the end of the 18th century in response to depleted natural pigment deposits, synthetic iron oxides were given the title ‘Mars’. This was in honour of the Roman god of war and our own planetary neighbour which contains double the iron oxide in its outer layer than our own planet does.
