Holbein Artists’ Oil Pastel Sets
Endorsed by the Oil Pastel Association of America (OPA), Holbein Artists’ Oil Pastels feel and move like a chalk pastel without the dust. Holbein Artists Oil Pastels are the culmination of over 60 years of research, development and manufacturing expertise in the oil pastel field. The manufacturing process is entirely automated to ensure uniform color distribution throughout the entire stick. Each stick is made in a square shape for working versatility.
These professional oil pastel sets feature a selection of colors, available in sets of 15, 25 or 40.
These soft sticks of juicy colour can fill areas quickly. They are smudgy and even slightly blend-able. Layers can cover over each other to create blends and gradual tonal changes. Coloured paper, sanded pastel paper, frosted mylar and coloured gesso all make great surfaces for oil pastel.
Holbein Artists’ Oil Pastels can be applied to almost any ground. They are used extensively over finished acrylic and oil paintings. Unlike other Oil Pastels that use vegetable oil, Holbein Artists’ Oil Pastels are inert once laid down and will not dry out or crack. Due to the paraffin wax content and highly refined mineral oil, they will never harden completely and cannot be successfully varnished. Therefore, all finished work should be mounted under glass.
