Big, Big Portrait! 12×12″ at The Paint Spot

100+ art pieces on display. The theme is portraiture. The show runs June 26 to August 26, 2024. After your drop off your art, it will be added to this online gallery you can share.

Call for Artists!

This Summer, The Paint Spot will fill our gallery and store, from front to back and side to side, with your portraits. A piece depicting only the face or head and shoulders traditionally comprises a portrait; artists are welcome to stretch the definition to their liking. In addition, a portrait does not always consist of only one person!
We would like to see self-portraits, but we are open to a range of people, caricatures, children, historical, and contemporary figures in any painting style you wish. Any medium is permitted—painting, drawing, collage, encaustic, and so on. The scope is intentionally broad to be as inclusive as possible.

Everyone is invited to participate! It’s as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Get a 12×12” gallery profile canvas or birch panel.
  2. Create an image related to the theme: “Portraits!”
  3. Bring it in! Deliver it to The Paint Spot ASAP. The show will be hung starting June 26, 2024.

As soon as you’ve finished your work, share it on social media by tagging @thepaintspot and by using the hashtag #BigBigPortraitShow. The sooner we get your image the more we can promote you!

Next summer is The Paint Spot’s 40th Anniversary Big, Big, Show! It will run from late June to mid August, 2025

It will be up for the Whyte Avenue Art Walk 2025!

Named for Sidsel Naess Bradley, The Paint Spot’s founder. who recognized the need for spaces that promote the exploration of artistic ideas and innovative processes. We are extremely proud of this heritage and its contribution to the development of many artists. Naess Gallery continues to be inclusive, encouraging dialogue among artists and visitors. We welcome proposals for exhibitions that push materials, techniques, subject matter, and conceptions.

In planning the Exhibition Year, we will be inviting artists whose practices we admire to exhibit their new works. It will be a year to revisit artists who have shown in the Naess Gallery in the past and to reveal new artists as well. We are going to see an exciting and enriching program of shows! If you have questions about the Naess Gallery or its exhibition program, please ask Kim Fjordbotten phone 780 432 0240.
