Stoneground Paint Co. Delft Blue Gouache

Stoneground gouache is a water-based paint that dries to an opaque, matte finish. These gouache paints are easily mixed with one another and can also be used together with Stoneground watercolour paint. This deep blue-grey is our go-to favorite for moody skies, stormy seascapes, and dark shadows. Stoneground Gouache Delft Blue, (also known as Delft Cobalt Blue) is a wonderful addition to any palette for landscape, botanical, still life, or illustration work.

Artist Notes: Delft (Cobalt) Blue is useful for depicting the natural blue-greys found in nature, as well as landscape features such as mountains and distant hills.

Paint Makers Notes: Cobalt pigments were popular among the Impressionists and can be found in the paintings of Monet and Renoir.

Modern Colours

Stoneground defines modern colours as those developed and discovered after 1704. This was when the accidental discovery of Prussian Blue occurred. The colours Stoneground classifies as such, contain organic and inorganic pigments and are typically characterized by their intense and bright appearance.
