Usu Kuchi Extra Heavy Machine Made
An excellent quality machine-made paper. Usu Kuchi Extra Heavy washi is absorbent and durable. It takes colour well, making it an excellent choice for dyeing, and it becomes remarkably cloth-like when treated with konnyaku starch. Usu Kuchi is also a great choice for drawing with graphite, soft pastel, and water-based media. It is heavy enough for soft covers with Japanese style book binding. Also available in Heavy (31g) and Light (21g).
Usu Kuchi differs from Kozuke in that it is made of pure kozo and is unsized. It takes colour beautifully and is receptive to most drawing and printmaking methods. Because it is unsized, it’s an excellent choice for projects that require great saturation, like dyeing.
