Class Limit: 15 Students
Artists of all levels welcome
This class will offer structure and community to your creative process. The instructor and classmates will discuss your artwork as you consider the content of your art and sharpen your formal skills.
During the first class, bring an in-process work, a sketchbook or a body of work for the instructor to discuss. Then work on the art outside of class time.
During the second class, bring in the updated artworks, and we will discuss your progress. The instructor may give suggestions for artists to research related to your artwork.
This group setting will enable you to get motivated to work on your own art and to think about your own creative process while you look at others’ art.
About the Instructor:
Samantha Walrod (University of Alberta MFA ’13) is a collage artist, painter and educator living in Edmonton, Alberta. Her work can be found in collections across Canada, including the AFA Collection.
Walrod is best known for her figurative or still life collages, which are depictions of animal/human encounters or wilting flowers. Each body of work speaks to hope, loss, decay and the passage of time.
In response to the ubiquity of digital imagery, tactility is very important to the artist’s practice. Images are incorporated with collage and digital technologies, while maintaining the exploration of paint.
