For oil or acrylic artists at Intermediate to Advanced levels
In this fun 1-day class, you will learn how to paint a one of a kind portrait of cats, dogs, or other favourite pets. You will learn how to select the best reference picture for your painting. Oksana will teach you about composition, tools, and ideas to paint an easy and quick alla prima (wet on wet technique) portrait of your loved ones. Follow the instructor’s demonstration as you create your own pet portrait, using loose, fluid brushstrokes to develop fur and whiskers and layer colours for a dimensional effect.
About the Instructor:
Classically trained in Eastern Europe, Oksana began her art career in L’viv, Ukraine. Oksana studied at the Ivan Trush College of Decorative Arts. She chose to make painting, especially of murals, her specialty. In 2001, she held her first solo exhibition at the L’viv University of Ivan Franko. Oksana brings her training, skill, and passion to her painting, and she is versatile in expressive styles. She is adept at many genres, including portraiture, still life, and landscape.

- Artist quality paints (e.g., Gamblin Oil or Holbein Acrylic. Feel free to bring your own favourite colour selection.
- Titanium White
- Raw Umber
- Indian Yellow
- Payne’s Grey
- Transparent Earth Red
- Quinacridone Magenta
- Ultramarine Blue
- Brushes
- For oil: Filbert and Flat Bristle brushes #2, #4, #6, plus synthetic liner brush
- For acrylic: Filbert and Flat Synthetic brushes #2, #4, #6, plus liner brush
- Medium: Galkyd or any other preferred medium (oil) and water or Golden Glazing Liquid (optional) for acrylic
- Canvas 11 x 14”, 14 x 14”, or 12 x 16”
- Disposable paper palette, wooden, or plastic (oil) or Sta-Wet Palette (acrylic – strongly recommended)
- Suitable art clothes, cloths or paper towel, notebook, lunch, drink, and your own PPE (mask, hand sanitizer)

Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
