If you loved coloured pencils in elementary school and think they’re not for professional artists, think again! Coloured pencils are an incredible medium that can produce masterpieces. Rediscover the joy and the meditative quality of coloured pencils in this realism workshop.

In this class, you’ll capture the unique textures and vibrant colours in nature using coloured pencils. Improve your ability to depict details in your drawings. Each week we will focus on a challenging element in nature (from fur to feathers and parts of plants) and explore the beauty you can achieve by layering with pencils.

Every week we will start class by trying a new technique and then will work on a larger nature-based project (you may bring your own reference for this or alternatively Crystal will provide an image to follow along with).

This class is open to beginners in the medium through to more advanced students looking to improve their techniques.

About the Instructor:

Inspired by memories and imaginings from a childhood spent in the forests and fields of her family farm, Crystal Driedger’s art is varied and vast from large-scale painted murals to scientific realism of botanicals in coloured pencil. Crystal has been an illustrator and fine artist in the Edmonton area for 20 years since graduating from MacEwan’s Design and Illustration program.
