Open for oil and acrylic artists at intermediate to advanced levels
Have you been practicing your portrait painting for a while, but still find yourself struggling with recreating lifelike nose, eyes, lips, bone structure, and hair? Do your portraits seem to result in an underwhelming finish?
Through the use of a live model we will study the human form to create greater likeness, more accurate proportion, depth and volume through limited colour palette and tonal values. This workshop will help you improve your abilities in painting realistic facial features and hair, which will in turn help you to create wonderful portraits.
Oksana will explain the anatomy of these features, make you aware of necessary details and show you practical techniques in her demonstrations during the class.
About the Instructor:
Classically trained in Eastern Europe, Oksana began her art career in L’viv, Ukraine. Oksana studied at the Ivan Trush College of Decorative Arts. She chose to make painting, especially of murals, her specialty. In 2001, she held her first solo exhibition at the L’viv University of Ivan Franko. Oksana brings her training, skill, and passion to her painting, and she is versatile in expressive styles. She is adept at many genres, including portraiture, still life, and landscape.

- Artist quality paints such as Gamblin Oil or Holbein Acrylic (feel free to bring more of your favourite colours):
- Titanium White
- Ivory Black
- Yellow Ochre
- Cadmium Red Light
- Quinacridone Magenta
- Cobalt Blue
- Brushes
- Oil (based on Princeton): Bristle Filbert #2, #4, #6, Bristle Flat #2, Synthetic Liner Brush #0 or #2
- Acrylic: Synthetic Filbert ##2, #4, #6, Flat #2, and Liner Brush #0 or #2
- Please feel free to bring other brushes of your choice
- Canvas 12 x 16” or 16 x 20”
- Medium of your choice. Galkyd Lite (Oil) or Golden Glazing Liquid (Acrylic)
- Palette of your choice. Disposable paper palette, wooden, or plastic (Oil) or Sta-Wet Palette (Acrylic – strongly recommended)
- Sketchbook, pencil, and eraser
- Suitable art clothes, cloths or paper towel, notebook, snack, drink, and your own PPE (mask, hand sanitizer)
You will receive a 20% discount on all art supplies from your registration, until the end of the class!
Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
