Focusing on Value
Are you a watercolour artist who wants to learn how to paint a simple still-life subject? Do you want to learn how value – an important element of art, affects the outcome of a realistic watercolour painting? Do you want to learn how to paint simple details with small brushes?
In this class you will learn how to paint a simple, monochromatic light bulb and how to pay attention to the quality or value of light and dark. Francis will show you how to use masking fluid and guide you with techniques on how to effectively paint details using comfortable brush strokes.
About the Instructor:
Francis Marte is a realistic watercolourist with years of professional experience. He has participated in various exhibits and has been featured in international watercolour publications. Francis possesses a strong sense of artistry, consistently displayed in all his art pieces. He is a well regarded watercolour instructor for emerging watercolourists.

Instructor will provide watercolour paint, masking fluid, and photo reference.
The Paint Spot will provide watercolour paper (Arches 300lb cold press, 11 x 15”), round watercolour brushes #2 & #12, 2 palettes, kneadable gum eraser, masking tape, mounting board
Please Bring:
- Handful of kitchen paper towels, ballpoint pen, 2 containers for water
- Suitable art clothes, hand towel, notebook, snack, drink, and your own PPE (mask, hand sanitizer)

Artelier is located at 10045 81 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta (back alley entrance). The workshop space is one block south of The Paint Spot.
