Ink Drawing Workshop WITH KIM FJORDBOTTEN

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27

6:30 PM – 9:30 PM

$50 + $20 Supply Fee

Class Limit: 16 Students

Are you seeking to draw expressively and develop a unique style? This course is for you. This will be a night of drawing that will inspire and motivate you. Kim will share many tips for filling a sketchbook that focus on how to gather, curate, and collage the bits into a sketchbook for reference and ideation for larger works.

After a quick demonstration the class will jump right into fine line exercises such as blind and semi-blind contour drawings to help students train their eye-hand coordination. Both fountain pen and fine line markers will be used during the evening. The pens are water soluble so the students can learn how to use water effectively to blend lines for soft tones and fluid effects.

Next, the instructor will demonstrate how to dilute different inks made from hand-ground Chinese ink sticks and ready-to-use liquid inks. Different types of indelible and water-soluble inks will be shared during the class. Tonal exercises and observational gesture drawings will help students build forms and compositions.

Lastly, we will combine techniques and work back into selected works from the previous exercises. Adding lines to the tonal drawings and adding ink washes back into the line drawings. The focus will be on how to use minimal marks to great effect. The finished works will be discussed in context to our discoveries, preferences and options for further practice. Kim will share many tips for filling a sketchbook that focus on how to gather, curate, and collage the bits into a sketchbook for reference and ideation for larger works.
