Class Limit: 12 Students

No experience required!

Monoprinting is an immediate printing process and rewarding for all levels of art experience. In this class, we’ll use the new Gelli Plates and non-toxic Akua Inks to capture simple animal images.

Participants are asked to bring several images or photographs of their favourite pet or animal. Students will learn to ‘see’ their subject more clearly and explore different ways to capture more than just a likeness through gesture drawings. Other basic concepts include: positive and negative shapes; mark-making with unusual tools; and patterning through the use of a grey-scale. The instructor will demonstrate various compositions and encourage playful experimentation of colours for multi-layer printing. School teachers are encouraged to attend as printmaking and drawing are important parts of the curriculum at all levels.

The instructor has demonstrated Gelli plates in various settings, including Breakfast Television, to great enthusiasm. Gelli plates are versatile, easy to use and produce quick results. They offer a pleasurable way to practice drawing and to learn more about highly useful techniques and skills you can transfer to other mediums.
