Artists have been painting with oil paint for hundreds of years, and oil paint continues to be popular worldwide due to its versatility, quality, and rich colour. Getting started with oil painting can be challenging, even intimidating.
Oil paint is different from acrylic paint: oil-based mediums are different from acrylic mediums, and you may be working with solvents. But please don’t think this means you will be working with foul-smelling, unsafe materials like turpentine. Oil painting supplies are safe to use and virtually odour-free.
Another difference is drying time, which is much longer for oil than for acrylic – but this means the time you can work the paint to layer, blend, add, and subtract to your painting is much longer, too.
Join this fun oil beginner class to unleash your creativity! Discover the unique properties of oil paint and mediums, appropriate brushes, palettes, and painting surfaces. Get some really useful tips, especially necessary if you are an oil painting beginner. Learn to harness the power of primaries. Take home a finished painting!
